Taisha
+ Art

On August 7, I visited the town of Taisha again and also drove to Sagiura.
I think that is one of the nicest drives I have found. The mountains are
lovely and the sea side is beautiful and powerful. There is also a place
to swim there. The beach is rocky, but the water is really clear. Many
visitors were there to enjoy the cool waters of the Japan sea. I envied
them because I had no swimming suit.

While in Taisha, I visited a friend, Mr. Toma, his charming wife and
his lovely daughter, Mikiko. I drank tea, ate fruit and enjoyed myself
very, very much. Mr. Toma showed me his superb collection of Japanese
antiques in which I was very interested. I could have spent hours and
even days looking at the wonderful things he has, but staying too long
is a bad habit, so I reluctantly had to go home. Mr. Toma should have
a museum. He knows everything!!!

I don't like to go alone to visit people formally, so, since my wife
was busy, I went with Ms. Taniguchi, a very pleasant lady who lives in
Matsue and makes "SHIFUKU" (cloth covers for small containers). She told
me a lot about art and her hobby. It was quite interesting. I wish more
young people would get interested in learning some of the old Japanese
arts.

The work the people of Japan have done is too beautiful to describe.
It seems that the artists made the objects only for themselves since most
people don't even see the delicate, detailed, really magnificent work
they did to make the object perfect. They had great pride in their work.
They were patient and hard workers. Wonderful habits! Can we do the same?
