Yasugi
and Yasugi-bushi
|
|
Yasugi is a growing city located in the country between Matsue and Yonago.
The people are very friendly and helpful. I go there every week. Kiyomizudera
and the Adachi Museum are nearby and many other historical places to visit.
If you really ask questions, look around and try to find out everything,
you will agree that it is an interesting place.

For instance, the Yasugi-bushi song tournament was held on the 15th
and the 16th of August. The Yasugi-bushi is the most difficult folk dance
in Japan and it is done by one person, usually. It is very funny, especially
if you understand the life of the rice farmer. In fact, many of the festivals
in Japan are based on the raising of rice. There are many classes teaching
Yasugi-bushi and my friend, Mr. Araki, is a teacher and dancer of Yasugi-bushi.
If you have never seen this folk dance, you must do so, at least once.
Not only it is funny, it is famous.

There are cakes made in the shape of the dancer's face which are a very
popular souvenir of a trip to this part of Japan. Yasugi is developing
rapidly and has a lot of places for entertainment and many factories for
jobs. It's population is growing which is a sign of strength. There is
a good high school there with dedicated teachers, such as Mr. Sadao Nojima
and Mr. Mitsuru Hayashi. They are English teachers and friends of mine.
Nice youngmen and good teachers.

The city has a progressive Lion's Club with a sincere interest in the
city and its future. It is a nice small city that has had a strong effect
on my career in the Sanin Area. Let's all go and see Yasugi.
